Fabric Care Guide
Furniture this nice deserves furniture-this-nice care. A few small rituals — not chores — will keep your Cocoon piece looking and feeling right for decades.
Every Day
- Plump cushions weekly to maintain shape.
- Rotate seat cushions every 1-2 months to even out wear.
- Keep direct sunlight off the piece when possible — UV fades every fabric, especially Velvet.
- Keep pets off the velvet if you can. We love dogs too. Velvet does not.
Weekly
- Vacuum upholstery with a soft brush attachment on the lowest suction setting. This prevents dust settling into the weave — the single biggest cause of premature fabric wear.
- Don't skip under the cushions. Crumbs, dust, and pet hair compact and accelerate wear.
When Something Spills
- Blot — don't rub. Rubbing pushes the spill into the weave and damages the fibers.
- Use a clean, white, absorbent cloth (colored cloths can transfer dye).
- Work from the outside of the spill toward the center.
- For water-based spills: blot dry, then dab with a damp white cloth.
- For oil-based spills: sprinkle cornstarch or baking soda, let sit 15 minutes, vacuum, then blot with a barely-damp cloth.
- Test any cleaning product on an unseen area first (back of the piece, under a cushion).
Per-Fabric Care
Cassis — 100% Performance Polyester
- The most forgiving of our fabrics. Stain-resistant, color-fast, machine-washable cover (where removable).
- Spot-clean with mild, pH-neutral detergent and a damp white cloth.
- Tougher stains: a small amount of dish soap on a damp cloth. Rinse-blot with clean water.
- Air dry. Never use a heat dryer on upholstery.
Belgian Linen — European Flax
- Linen softens with use — a slight relaxation in the fabric over the first 6 months is normal and the goal.
- Vacuum weekly. Do not steam-clean linen at home.
- Spot-clean only. For larger spills, call a professional upholstery cleaner experienced with European flax.
- Avoid water rings: blot any liquid immediately to prevent the watermark from setting.
Velvet — Cotton-Viscose Blend
- Velvet shows pile direction. Brush gently in one direction with a soft upholstery brush after vacuuming.
- Crush marks from sitting will recover on their own within a few hours. Steam at a low setting from 12 inches away to speed it up (test first).
- Never apply liquid cleaner directly. Always apply to a cloth first.
- Professional cleaning is strongly recommended for any stain you can't fully blot up.

What Not to Do
- Don't use bleach, oxygen cleaner, or any product with a high pH on upholstery.
- Don't use a steam iron directly on the fabric.
- Don't put a sofa next to a heating vent or radiator. Heat dries fabric and ages frames.
- Don't move a sofa by dragging — lift it. Dragging stresses the frame.
The Frame
Kiln-dried hardwood. Wipe with a slightly damp cloth if needed. No polish. No solvent. The frame is covered by a 5-year warranty against manufacturing defects.
